On 22 October, as part of repatriation activities, 252 bodies (remains) were returned to Ukraine which, according to the russian side, belong to Ukrainian Defenders.
An integral part of this process is the work of the search teams of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's "ON THE SHIELD" Humanitarian Project. Their activities are coordinated by the Central Directorate of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite constant risks – enemy shelling, the threat of drones and remote mining – the search teams continue to carry out their mission.
The repatriation of our country's fallen Defenders is the result of joint work by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Joint Centre at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and other components of Ukraine's security and defence sector. The International Committee of the Red Cross also facilitates the return of fallen service members.
The Joint CIMIC Support Centre of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will then transport the repatriated bodies to designated institutions for the necessary forensic examinations and identification.
🕯️ Honour and eternal memory to the fallen Defenders of Ukraine. Our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones.
The "ON THE SHIELD" mission continues. Its aim remains unchanged – to bring the fallen Defenders home.
