Support for Ukraine was among the key priorities as NATO Chiefs of Defence met in Copenhagen

On 18–19 September, NATO’s highest Military Authority, the NATO Military Committee, held its annual conference, bringing together the Chiefs of Defence of all 32 Allies and NATO’s two Strategic Commanders.

Discussions focused on the follow-up to the NATO Summit in Ankara, including further strengthening the Alliance’s collective deterrence and defence, innovation and technology, and support for Ukraine.

Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone underscored NATO’s unwavering support to Ukraine. Allies continue to provide equipment, training and assistance, while learning vital lessons from Ukraine’s heroic defence.

Allies also discussed accelerating readiness, strengthening the ability to operate in a multi-domain environment, and the need for defence industry to deliver with greater speed and at scale.

Allies also elected General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of Germany, as the next Chair of the NATO Military Committee. He will assume the post in summer 2027.
